STATEMENT

My work exists at the intersection of fashion, material experimentation, and identity. I create one-of-one garments and objects using repurposed materials: plastic, denim, textiles, and found elements, to explore transformation, fluidity, and self-expression beyond conventional design systems. Each piece is rooted in process, prioritizing construction, texture, and concept as much as final form.

Influenced by my lived experience and years of repressed psychological trauma , I approach creative design as a personal narrative, cathartic healing mechanism, and visual language. I’m interested in how clothing and objects shape the body, communicate identity, and challenge norms of wearability and value. My work balances functionality and sculpture, often blurring the line between art, fashion, and performance.

I am open to collaborate with likeminded brands, artists, and institutions interested in innovation, sustainability, and culturally driven design: projects that value experimentation, storytelling, and pushing materials beyond their perceived expected use.

BIOGRAPHY

Aidan Ulloa (b. 2005, Los Angeles, CA) is a gender-nonconforming interdisciplinary artist and fashion designer whose work centers on transformation, reframing discarded materials as sites of value, beauty, and expression. Their practice prioritizes sustainability through up-cycling and repurposing, employing materials often considered waste and reconstructing them into wearable works of art. By doing so, Ulloa seeks to reduce the environmental impact of the creative process while challenging dominant systems within the art and fashion industries that normalize excess and disposability.

Ulloa’s creative practice began in childhood, at the age of five, and evolved significantly at age thirteen through digital art and graphic design. In the year 2020, they began translating these skills into garment design, launching an independent practice rooted in experimentation and self-directed learning. Early work included hand-spray-painted t-shirts, later expanding into printed and constructed pieces through collaborative and digital production methods. This progression marked the foundation of a design approach that merges graphic sensibility, material exploration, and concept-driven making.

In 2022, Ulloa founded the brand Båraks Setulmen, through which they design and produce clothing and accessories, alongside work created for Kasernbosättning. Operating primarily under the name Båraks “B. Set” Setulmen, Ulloa functions as a one-person studio, overseeing all aspects of design, construction, and creative direction. Since its inception, Båraks Setulmen has released two ready-to-wear collections, with an ongoing commitment to expanding the visual language of Black and brown fashion, centering innovation, sustainability, and self-definition beyond conventional industry expectations.
